Award-winning cinematographer Matt Phillips, CSC, has travelled the globe with his camera, aiming his lens at some of the most exotic and inspiring places in the world.
With a career spanning more than 30 years, his credits include episodic television drama, dramatic shorts, documentary, docu-drama, documentary series, industrials, reality/lifestyle, music video, commercial, broadcast television, news and current affairs.
An esteemed freelance DOP/Operator, Matt answered his professional calling in 1983 as a news cameraman, working the frontlines to capture the stories that shaped his community and the world. He later shifted his focus to the EFP world of entertainment news, where he honed his skills as a cinematographer.
Travelling extensively and shooting in some of the most dangerous places on earth, Matt fell in love with lighting, composition and movement. His passion for the perfect frame has not gone unnoticed. He has won four CSC awards and a Gemini for Best Photography in 2010 from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, and his foray into the dramatic genre has earned him a place in the prestigious festival circuit, including a run at both the Sundance Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in 2003.
A Full Member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers and a member of the International Cinematographers Guild (IA667) as a DOP, today Matt works primarily in the scripted drama union world, where he brings his critical eye and extensive experience to projects in both video and film formats.
